So this Friday with my nephew Gage was WAY better than the week before by a long shot. And yes, I actually put him down and did not hold him the whole time. Here is how the day went:
I laid Gage down on my bed so I could fold towels. My delinquent cat, Peevy, jumped on the bed and was trying to lie next to Gage. At first I pushed the cat away cuz I didn’t want him to try and walk on Gage or lay on him (he is a very cuddlely kitty). Then Peevy just tried to lay next to him and started rolling around him in hopes that maybe Gage would rub his belly (we all know that would not happen). But I ended up getting a really cute picture of Peevy and Gage next to each other, both on their backs and it looks like they are holding hands (well, paw to hand). They are now best pals….so cute.
I then got the guts to take Gage out to run some errands. This kid LOVES car rides. First, we went to his day care to get his picture taken. The photographer took about 10-15 pictures then Gage started fussing. My sister had this specific outfit he was to take pictures in. He had camo pants with a shirt that says “Little Rocker.” The photographer got some cute pictures, so this trip was successful. I was even at ease while driving. I am actually a better driver. I take corners slower, actually drive the speed limit, and am very cautious of my surroundings. Maybe this will become a habit when I don’t have a child in my car…we will see though.
Then I went to Safeway (just down the road form his day care) to visit Joey for a few moments and to get my Starbucks kick. While I was showing off my nephew to the girls at Starbucks this random lady comes up to look at Gage. She asks how old he is and I said, 7 weeks. She says, “Wow that is a healthy baby,” meaning that he has cubby cheeks. I just smiled at her, but now I think it was kinda rude. So what if he has cubby cheeks. He is a growing boy. ALL babies have chubby cheeks. Screw her. Anyway, while I was at Safeway, every woman in site was starring at Gage and oooohhh and awwwwwing at him. He is in fact a ladies man.
I then went to my doctors office to pick up mail they had for me. When I got up to the front desk the receptionist asked how old he was. I said 7 weeks (I had probably said this 100 times already today and it was only 9am). She says, “Wow, you look good for having a 7 week old.” And what did I say to her you may ask??…. I said “Thanks!” with a huge smile on my face. By just saying thanks, I am avoiding having a conversation with this lady about my nephew. I just wanted to be on my way. Plus it was a nice complement even though I didn’t push this baby outta my crotch. Oh well. I called my sister and told her the story and she just laughed.
We then went home for a bottle and a diaper change. Then my bored out of his mind brother wanted us to come visit him. So we took another car ride. We visited him and my dad for a couple hours. They got their “Gage fixes,” and then if was back to my house for the rest of the day.
So, this day was way easier than last week. Maybe its cuz Gage loves car rides. He would be asleep the whole car ride and then when we reached our destination he would still be sleeping. I found myself exhausted though after his mom came and picked him up. Maybe its cuz of putting him in and out of the car and carrying him in his car seat everywhere we went. I took about an hour nap after he left and boy did I need it. We had a lot of fun though!! I now know that I can put him down in order to get things done and I can drive with him in the car with out the nervousness I had before. ALSO….if I can’t get him to sleep then we will go for a drive!!!!
Till next time…………. :)
Happy 6th Birthday Jovie!
