Yup!! I did it. I got my car tabs this year. AND....it was almost on time AND only $62 bucks. I looked at my registration last night before I went into the licencing office. It expired on Nov. 20th. "Great!" I told my self. I was happy that this year I remembered and it was only 11 days late. Last year was a different story...
After Joey and I got married, my dad finally decided to rid himself of any responsibility towards me. That sounds harsh but it really isn't. It is kinda funny actually. I was all grown up and out on my own with Joey by my side. Well, as my dad put after we tied the knot, "Joey gets to deal with you now," or he would tell Joey, "she is all yours...good luck!" in a sarcastic voice. I laughed and said, "well dad, lets get that car in Joey and I's name and you are all done. I mean, I did earn it. I graduated didn't I?!?! I still don't know why it took him a year to finally sign it over. Maybe he wanted to hold on to me as long as possible!...haha...NOT. Anyways, we got the car in our name and we now took full responsibility for it.
Fast forward to mid-February of 2008-My tabs cost me $280 bucks.GRRRR. Joey and I were in downtown Seattle with my car full of friends ready to celebrate a friends birthday. To this day I still don't know why we chose my car to take. We almost always take Joey's car everywhere we go. That was a mistake. Anyway, before we left for Pioneer Square we prefunked with a couple of beers and then off we were. Joey driving of course. We get downtown and then there were those dreaded lights flashing behind us. My heart started pounding and I go..."What the hell did we do?!?!" I was so nervous cuz I new Joey had a beer or two. I was in the passenger seat with my hands shaking like hell trying to find my registration and my insurance card. Like I said before, I was scared for Joey because he had been drinking. People were staring and laughing probably saying... "hahaha...busted." The officer comes up to our foggy window (my car is small and with 5 people..no air circulation) and looks around the car for a couple seconds. He stared at Joey's rockstar to see if it was one of those energy drinks that has alochol in it. (The officer literally kept looking at it every few seconds while he was talking to us). He finally said, "Did you know that your tabs are expired?" I go...ummmm NO!!! He then asked for our ID's, my registration and insurance card. And what do you know...I don't have an updated insurance card with me and the registration that we had was the old one with my dad's name on it. I explained that the car was just put into our names and I had no idea the tabs were expired and that I was never notified by mail. He goes back to his car for what seemed like an eternity and then comes back with a $216 ticket for tabs being expired for more than 90 days. He told us to get an updated insurance card and said he could write us up for that too and thats a way more expensive ticket (which can be dropped, sometimes, when you show the court proof of insurance). I guess we were kinda lucky because he didn't even ask if we had been drinking and let us go. I was more at ease but still beyound pissed about the ticket. I was wondering the whole night of the chances that he got behind MY car. Joey thinks that he was tipped off by the small car full of people and really foggy windows. Did the cop think we were hot boxing my car in the middle of a busy downtown area!?!?! I was only that stupid in high school! Dumb ass cop!!
So a week later I paid the stupid $216 ticket and then another 64 bucks for my tabs. That was a quick $280 bucks! I was really irritated that an expired tab ticket was way more expensive than any speeding ticket I or Joey ever got or even a seat belt ticket for that matter. Who's life are you endangering with expired tabs. I mean...come on!! Really?? $216 seems kind of excessive. Doesn't it??? I am also wondering why I didn't get a notice in the mail - Joey got one for his and I didn't get one this year either. It just dawned on me on Sunday that I should probably see when they expired. I was not about to pay $280 bucks again. So I am very proud that I remembered this year! I saved my self over $200 bucks!! It is kinda weird that I am proud of myself for remembering to get my tabs...even if I was still a little late in getting them! No tickets for me!!
Happy 6th Birthday Jovie!
