This past weekend Joey and I along with some family and friends attended an amature fight night that a popular local gym called the American Martial Arts Center (AMC..based out of kirkland) hosted. And I'll have to say that it was actually pretty fun. There was a mixture of kickboxing and MMA (mixed martial arts...i.e. what you see in Ultimate Fighting) fights. There was even a kickboxing fight between two chicks that was actually pretty good. picture below:
We were seated in the 2nd row from the ring so we got to see some pretty good fighting action and lots of blood. Some of the 15 fights lasted all the rounds and some didn't. There were only a couple lame ones but the rest were actually pretty good so we got our moneys worth. A guy that my sister went to high school with is an upcoming MMA fighter and fought that night too. It was his 2nd fight and he won in the first 45 seconds (he won his first fight too) by sumbission. So hopefully he does well in this sport. Also, Rich Franklin, the former UFC middle-weight champion of the world (he was also on the Ulitmate fighter reality show) was there to watch the fights and he is doing some training at that AMC gym so it was kinda cool to see him. picture below (best i could get with my phone..he is on the left):
I never was really into this fighing thing before I met Joey, but over the three years I can actually say that I like watching this sport the best (besides football of course). We usually watch the UFC fights on TV so this was the first time we saw some fighting in action. And we were in the 2nd row...can't beat that. I definalty want to go watch these MMA fights again and will make it a point to keep up on when the next local fights are. Here are some other pictures:
